The HFPA Announces Residency Program for Emerging Filmmakers

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced a new initiative in which rising filmmakers from the 2018 Venice International Film Festival and the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival will be selected for a three-week residency program in partnership with Film Independent. Three filmmakers (writers, directors, producers) from The Orrizonti Section of the Venice International Film Festival and three filmmakers from TIFF's Filmmaker Lab, the Festival's flagship talent development program, will be selected to travel to Los Angeles from January 2 – 23, 2019 for mentorship, master classes, and workshops.

Once Again, Jerusalem Celebrates Good Movies

It's a summer tradition in Jerusalem: at the end of July, when the weather in this ancient city built over seven hills is cooler and drier than in the rest of Israel, people come from all over the country to watch some of the films that will be in everybody's conversations for month to come. Quality is never an issue here, perhaps because this film festival that this year celebrates its 35th anniversary does not request mandatory premieres.

HFPA in Conversation: Debra Messing Welcomes New Challenges

Will & Grace star and Golden Globe nominee  Debra Messing got together with HFPA journalist Barbara Gasser at the London hotel in West Hollywood. Messing talked about how she will celebrate her 50th birthday,  reflected on her life experiences as a young woman, and how she found a meaningful purpose to her life in college and later became a Global Health Ambassador for Populations Services International, which led her to visit HIV prevention programs in Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
