In today’s global market, remakes and adaptations are the order of the day. But for the Spanish language version of Breaking Bad, it was more a case of duplication.

Pretty bad reviews and a 67% drop from opening weeks are usually sure signs that a film will be labeled a box office disaster. In the case of Suicide Squad, which suffered from both of these experiences, that label is far from applicable.

Suicide Squad murdered the box office this week with a record smashing $135 million home market debut. It took 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy’s August opening crown, grossing almost 50% more than Marvel’s global hit.

The HFPA's Annual Grants Banquet is the perfect Summer match to our much bigger Winter affair, the Golden Globes. Like the Globes, it gathers the industry together in a sophisticated but relaxed environment, with the added bonus of everyone's attention to the other side of the business: its impact on the community, and the work of several cultural, education and charitable non-profits.

“This right here,  is my favorite party of the year”, said  Jamie Lee Curtis, who hosted  the annual HFPA Grants Banquet at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. “The kind of party where they invite you, feed and give away $2 million”.

What a night! Over $2. 4 million were given away to non profits, universities and schools, and stars, execs and guests had a great time.

Not a black tie gala but not an informal brunch either, the HFPA's Annual Grants Banquet spreads the good while featuring interesting late-Summer/Fall trends. Take a look at our star presenters and their cool looks.

At hand to deliver the checks are Golden Globe winners Christian Slater, Gina Rodriguez, Hugh Grant, Joanne Froggatt, Mel Gibson, Warren Beatty and Golden Globe nominees Emma Stone, Justin Timberlake will present grants, together with stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Nate Parker, Renée Zellweger, Simon Helberg and Vince Vaughn. Stars and guests are being treated to a cocktail of champagne and passed hors d’oeuvres like salmon poke cones and beef wellington en croute.
