Coralie Fargeat

Coralie Fargeat (born Nov. 24, 1976 in Paris)  is a French filmmaker whose 2017 debut was Revenge, which she wrote and directed. The film premiered at Toronto International Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival and was subsequently released by Neon in spring 2018.

She directed, wrote and produced The Substance, starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley which premiered In Competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Palme for screenplay. The film has earned $77+ million worldwide so far.

Fargeat’s films examine the way women’s bodies are scrutinized, fantasized about, and criticized in the public space. She describes the film as a political statement: in a society that asks women to hold back, The Substance instead leans into excess and gore.
