Fernanda Torres
Fernanda Torres (born Sept. 15, 1965, in Rio) is an actress, writer, columnist, and screenwriter. She made her film debut at 16 in Inocencia directed by Walter Lima Jr., and starred in numerous films that marked the rebirth of Brazilian cinema after the dictatorship era. Among them was her first partnership with Walter Salles in Foreign Land, in 1995. In 1986, Torres was awarded the Palme d’Or for best actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in Love Me Forever or Never by Arnaldo Jabor. In 2007, she began writing columns for newspapers and magazines. In 2014, she published her first novel, the 2013 “Fim,” which sold over 200,000 copies, was translated into seven languages, and adapted into a TV series. In I’m Still Here, Torres shares the role with her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, who plays the older Eunice Paiva, Torres’ character. Montenegro was nominated for a Golden Globe as best actress in Salles’ Central Station.
