Irene Cara
Irene Cara Escalera (born in The Bronx, New York, March 18, 1959, died November 25, 2022), an actress and a singer, wrote the song “Flashdance…What a Feeling” for the movie Flashdance (1983) directed by Adrian Lyne starring Jennifer Beals. She played Coco in the movie Fame (1980) directed by Alan Parker. She starred in the musical film Sparkle (1976). She acted on television in the miniseries Roots: The Next Generation (1979), the movie For Us the Living: The Medgar Evers Story (1983).
