Olivia Hussey

Olivia Hussey (born in Buenos Aires April 17, 1951, died December 27, 2024) to an Argentine father and British mother, raised in London, started acting on stage as a teenager. Italian director Franco Zeffirelli cast her the bigscreen version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet (1968). She was voted Most Promising Newcomer at the Golden Globes, along with her costar Leonard Whiting. Hussey acted in the musical Lost Horizon (1973) with Peter Finch and Liv Ullmann, the cult horror favorite Black Christmas (1974) by Bob Clark, and Death on the Nile (1978) with Peter Ustinov directed by John Guillermin from the 1937 novel by Agatha Christie. She was directed by Zeffirelli again in the TV miniseries Jesus of Nazareth (1977) in the role of Mary, acted in the British TV movie Ivanhoe (1982) from the 1819 novel by Walter Scott, the miniseries The Last Days of Pompeii (1984),  the two-part TV version of Stephen King’s It (1990), and played the title role in the Italian TV miniseries Mother Teresa of Calcutta (2003). She wrote a memoir, “The Girl on the Balcony: Olivia Hussey Finds Life After Romeo and Juliet” in 2018.
