Pete Docter

Pete Docter (born October 9, 1968, in Bloomington, MN) is an animator, director, producer, and screenwriter, and one of Pixar Animation Studios’ most influential creative minds. Docter joined Pixar in 1990 as the studio’s third animator, helping develop ideas for its early projects. He served as a storyboard artist on Toy Story (1995) before making his directorial debut with Monsters, Inc. (2001). He later directed Up (2009). Docter continued delivering groundbreaking work with Inside Out (2015) and he co-directed Soul, the first Pixar film to feature a Black protagonist. Docter is currently serving as Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer, a role he took over in 2018.
