Richard Lester

Richard Lester (born Jan. 19, 1932 in Philadelphia) is an American filmmaker long based in the U.K. His work, with fast editing and interesting camera angles, proved groundbreaking. He received acclaim with The Running Jumping & Standing Still Film (1959), a short film he made with Spike Milligan and Peter Sellers. That led to A Hard Day’s Night (1964), then Help! (1965), The Knack … and How to Get it (1965), Petulia (1968), The Three Musketeers (1973), The Four Musketeers (1974)  Robin and Marian (1968), Superman II (1980). He walked away from filmmaking after The Return of the Musketeers (1989) and the Paul McCartney concert film Get Back (1991).
