Ryan Coogler
Ryan Coogler is a writer-director-producer who established himself with his inaugural feature, Fruitvale Station, which won the top audience and grand jury awards at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. He continued the Rocky series when he co-wrote and directed Creed, reinvigorating the franchise. He then executive produced Creed II and produced Creed III, each starring Michael B. Jordan, with Jordan also directing the latter.
Coogler co-wrote and directed Marvel’s Black Panther, which became the most successful domestic release of 2018, grossing $1.3 billion in theaters worldwide. The film, starring the late Chadwick Boseman, is the only Marvel film to benominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. That was followed by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and he also co-wrote the film’s song “Lift Me Up,” along with Rihanna, Tems, and Ludwig Göransson.
In 2018, Coogler founded Proximity Media alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian.
Coogler’s Sinners (2025) reunites him with Michael B. Jordan. For the film’s score, he once again collaborated with Göransson.
