Sam Spiegel

Producer Sam Spiegel (born November 11, 1901 in Jarosław, Galicia, Austria-Hungary, now Poland; died December 31, 1985, in Saint-Martin, French West Indies) produced some of Hollywood’s most memorable films.  In the 1940s, he began producing in Hollywood after earlier work in Europe. His credits include The African Queen (1951), On the Waterfront (1954), The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), Suddenly, Last Summer (1959), Lawrence of Arabia (1962) , Nicholas and Alexandra (1971) and The Last Tycoon (1976).
