Simon Baker
Actor Simon Baker (born on July 30, 1969, in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia) received two Golden Globe nominations as Best Actor – Drama – for the TV series The Guardian (2002) and The Mentalist (2010). He also directed several episodes of both shows. After competing as a teen in surfing and water polo at state level, Baker discovered acting and became a regular in Australian TV series E Street (1992), A Country Practice (1993) and Home and Away (1994). Upon relocating in Los Angeles, Baker was cast for the acclaimed period neo-noir L.A. Confidential (1997), directed by Curtis Hanson, starring alongside his Aussie friends Russell Crowe and Guy Pierce. Seamlessly alternating film and TV, Baker went on starring in the sci-fi Red Planet (2000), the historical romance The Affair of the Necklace (2001), The Guardian (2001-2004), George Romero’s horror Land of the Dead (2005), the “fashion comedy” The Devil Wears Prada (2006), the TV series Smith (2007), Michael Ondaatje’s thriller The Lodger (2009), J.C. Chandor’s “cult” Margin Call (2011) and the series The Mentalist (2008-2015). He’s also starred in the romantic film Here and Now (2018), next to Sarah Jessica Parker, the action-adventure High Ground (2020), the series Roar (2022) and the upcoming drama Blaze.
