Walter Lang
Walter Lang (born in Memphis, Tennessee, August 10, 1896, died February 7, 1972) got his start in silent films, directed movies like The Little Princess (1939) with Shirley Temple, the musical There’s No Business Like Show Business (1954) starring Ethel Merman and Marilyn Monroe with songs by Irving Berlin, a movie version of Roger and Hammerstein’s 1951 stage musical The King and I (1956) starring Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner, from the 1944 novel by Margaret Landon Anna and the King of Siam, based on memoirs by Anna Leonowens, the romantic comedy Desk Set (1957) with Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, the musical Can-Can (1960) starring Frank Sinatra and Shirley MacLaine with songs by Cole Porter.
