Walter Salles (born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, April 12, 1956) directed movies in Portuguese, like Central Station (Central Do Brasil, 1998) with Fernanda Montenegro, Behind the Sun (Abril Despedaçado, 2001) with Rodrigo Santoro, he directed in Spanish The Motorcycle Diaries (Diarios de Motocicleta, 2004) with Gael García Bernal, based on the 1952 memoir by a 23-year-old Ernesto “Che” Guevara. He directed in English On the Road (2012) from the 1957 novel by Jack Kerouac with Garret Hedlund and Kristen Stewart.
