William Monahan
William Monahan (born in Boston, Massachusetts, November 3, 1960), is a screenwriter and novelist, best known for the screenplay The Departed, a gangster movie directed by Martin Scorsese starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson and Matt Damon, thanks to which he received a Golden Globe nomination in 2007 for Best Film Screenplay. Over the years he has collaborated with several directors writing the screenplays of successful movies, such as Kingdom of Heaven (2005) and Body of Lies (2008), both directed by Ridley Scott, Edge of Darkness (2010) directed by Martin Campbell and The Gambler (2014) directed by Rupert Wyatt. During his career he wrote and directed two films, London Boulevard (2010) and Mojave (2015). His latest projects are the screenplay for The Tender Bar (2021), directed by George Clooney and the not-yet-released Marlowe, directed by Neil Jordan.
