Cannes 2017, Day Eleven: Suspense and Sensibility
Some awards have already been given – Cinefondation, Directors Fortnight, Un Certain Regard, Critics’ Week – and as of end of day today, with the gala premiere of Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here, all films in competition would have been screened. A thick veil of suspense envelops the Croisette as Pedro Almodóvar’s jury debates the merits of this jubilee year’s selection. It was a thrilling year, full of new ideas and offerings, from virtual reality to cutting edge TV series, and films covering the full spectrum of our troubled times and the complexity of human emotions. The HFPA is honored and delighted to be part of this historic edition, finding common ground in our global view of cinema as a uniting force for good.
