Cannes Festival Glamour: Hair and Hats
Selena Gomez whose film “Emilia Perez” received a prolonged standing ovation at its premiere in Cannes, was elegant in a figure-hugging column Saint Laurent with off-the-shoulder detail. The multi-hyphenate wore her hair swept up in a high pony, her long bangs parted in the center, framing her face. The naked shoulders allowed for an ornate display of Bulgari diamonds fit for a queen; her lobes dangled double-column diamond earrings.
Headgear — a trend started on the Golden Globes’ red carpet by Rosemund Pike — manifested in marvelous ways at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Margaret Qualley went with a retro look by Chanel, with back-button details and an empire pleated skirt. But it was her chapeau that made the outfit outstanding, the oversized brim held in place with a gigantic diamond hat pin. The previous night at the premiere of “Kinds of Kindness,” the star went with a soft pink, ruched Chanel gown of tulle. Her hair, adorned with a diamond Alice Band with a star detail, was delicacy itself.
At the “Furiosa” press conference, Anya Taylor Joy donned a beaded-fringed skull cap that echoed the frayed detail on her cropped jacket and low-slung pencil skirt.
Meanwhile, Natalie Emmanuel (“Megaopolis”), Kirsten Dunst, Uma Thurman (“Oh, Canada”) and Greta Gerwig adopted the latest hair trend: a strong side-path. Emma Stone (“Kinds of Kindness“) and Cate Blanchett (“Rumors”) eschewed the trend, the former choosing loosely curled center part for her auburn locks while the latter going with a sculptured soft chignon. Nikki Amuka-Bird (“Rumors”) wore swooped edges and braids swept to a low pony at the nape of her neck.
French singer Yseult embodied the color trend on the Cannes red carpet going with an iconic black and white Dior ensemble, topped with their classic shaped straw hat.
