Golden Globes Presents First Omar Sharif Awards in Cairo
The Golden Globes presented the new Omar Sharif Award to two notables Nov. 20 in Cairo, celebrating Arab cinema and television. Youssra and Hussein Fahmy were the first honorees, as the Globes salutes the significant impact of the Arab world on global entertainment. The evening at the Nile Ritz-Carlton was presented by Enigma Magazine, honoring the legacy of Omar Sharif, the Arab world’s first Golden Globe-winning actor.
The awards were presented by Helen Hoene, president of the Golden Globes, who travelled to Cairo for the gala dinner at the Nile Ritz-Carlton. Enigma’s Yasmine Shihat spoke at the event, which featured live performances by Abu and Ahmed Saad.
The event drew an impressive array of Arab stars in support of the Golden Globes’ presence in Cairo, including actress Laila Eloui, Tunisia’s Dorra, and Egyptian luminaries Mahmoud Hemeida, Elham Shaheen, Safeya El Emary, Injy El Mokkadem, Ahmed Dawood, Hana Shiha, Mohamed Farrag, Nahed El Sebai, and Dalia El Behery.
