“A Simple Favor” – Subterfuge and Ambition Through Wardrobe
If a costume designer has done their job well, the costume lends itself to character information. That is never truer than with the work of Renée Ehrlich Kalfus in A Simple Favor. You may recognize her stamp from Hidden Figures, another female dominated film dealing with hidden contributions and unrecognized talent. In this film we have two women, mothers, whose paths intertwine only because their children like each other. From the moment Blake Lively appears on screen you know this is a woman unlike others. While Anna Kendrick’s costumes refer to a woman of constricted means and taste, who strives to stand out. Ms. Ehrlich-Kalfus sat down with the Goldenglobes.com to talk about how she fleshed out the characters by her costume designs.
