What We Learned from the Cannes Red Carpet

The dominant trend was embroidered, embossed and beaded gowns in neutrals and black that stunned. Models appeared in hoards – they stood out in a crowd for being barely clothed and not smiling. Is that a rule? Or a way to prevent wrinkles and ruining a career? Hair was worn in tight buns or beach waves. Work was on everyone’s lips. Movies were discussed with passion at after-parties, in glamorous settings with a different smattering of stars at each event. Color came in two forms: forward-trending mustard and perennial red. Let’s look at some of the standouts on this year’s carpet.
