2018 Golden Globe Awards

Avatar was the first movie to be shot with a 3D camera, released in 3D and in IMAX 3D, to win the Golden Globe for Best Film and to be nominated in the same category at the Academy Awards. The film was 40% live-action and 60% photo-realistic CGI, including a massive amount of motion-capture performance.

Woody Allen once told the HFPA that when he had an idea for a film he’d write it on a slip of paper and throw it in a drawer. “When I’m about to start a new project, I open the drawer, take out those pieces of paper and look at them.

Slumdog Millionaire is an uplifting drama about an orphan from the Mumbai slums who appears on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. It picked up the Golden Globe for Best Picture, Drama, and many other honors.

Only DreamWorks could envisage a commercial future for a film based on Stephen Sondheim’s Broadway classic – Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. But in the end, it took three studios to finance the film, Warner Bros and Paramount having to chip in to cover its $50 million cost.

It was a sad year for the Golden Globes, the year in which the Awards Ceremony and its glorious party didn't happen. The 65th Golden Globe Awards were scheduled to be presented on January 13, 2008, but due to the Writers Guild strike, the show could not be broadcast.

It was the musical to end all musicals. DreamWorks would spare nothing.

Golden Globe winner Babel by Alejandro Iñarritu is a multi-narrative, ensemble cast drama completing the director’s so-called death trilogy,  following Amores Perros and 21 Grams. The film portrays four interlocking stories taking place in four countries on three continents, Morocco, Japan, Mexico and the U.

Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal played cowboys Ennis and Jack, making love passionately in their tent or in the great outdoors in Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain. The film touched everyone's sensibility and started a very civilized discussion over love and open-mindedness.

Leonardo DiCaprio played the eccentric, homophobic billionaire Howard Hughes with admirable zest in the Golden Globe winner The Aviator.   The Martin Scorsese's biopic starts with Hughes' early filmmaking years as owner of RKO studios, but mostly focuses on his role in designing and promoting new aircraft.
