72st Cannes Film Festival

Every year, the Kering Women in Motion awards recognize the careers and commitments shown by leading female figures in the world of cinema. Launched in 2015 by Kering, a partner of the Festival de Cannes, Women in Motion is an integral part of the festival's official program and has extended its reach around the world through a series of events, mostly through its series of Talks.

The young Americans went for pale beading in a night of fabulous fashion. The Europeans, for the most part, went black.

The rain is drowning Cannes. It’s cold.

Mature women dominated the carpet, while new stars blended in with, for the most part, an all-white wardrobe.

This year a musical took Cannes by storm. Rocketman was out of competition here but it certainly was the talk of the Croisette in the early days of the festival, bringing a bit of rock n’ roll glamour to the proceedings.

The weather in Cannes is abysmal, which plays havoc with the hair. Women continued to choose controlled hair that would not fall apart in drizzle.

It was a Rocketman kind of night. Accessories dominated and Elton got a three-minute standing ovation.

Women wore flounces and chiffon. Trends: detailed construction to create soft shapes, while hair, for the most part.

On the Cannes red carpet, women’s style fell into two categories- soft flowing feminine gowns or super structured tailoring with the bust on display.

Cannes began gently with Elle Fanning dressed as a designer gauzy schoolmarm – while controlled tailoring and feminine details dominated.
