Ruth Negga, Loving – Best Performance By An Actress, Motion Picture-Drama

The story of Mildred and Richard Loving, the interracial couple from a small rural community in Virginia who took their civil rights case all the way to the US Supreme Court in the early 1960s is told, in writer-director Jeff Nichols’ film, essentially through the eyes of its two main characters. Ruth Negga pored over an extensive amount of research, including a documentary about the case, to build her performance as Mildred.
