Alien: Covenant

After a slight hiccup with Pirates earlier this month, Disney is back at the head of the pack with Pixar produced Cars 3. Lightning McQueen, the series’ anthropomorphic racecar voiced by Owen Wilson, rocketed into first place on the domestic chart with $53.

In its US landing Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant had the honor of a $36. 5 million first place debut.

Master auteur Ridley Scott promised to scare the pants off people With Alien: Covenant, his return to the beloved Alien franchise, which started in 1979 with his iconic Alien. After his polarizing 2012 prequel Prometheus, Alien: Covenant returns to the elements that captivated audiences in the original: a crew in trouble, an alpha no-nonsense female lead (this time played by Katherine Waterston) and plenty of blood-curdling aliens popping up everywhere.

Alien: Covenant is the sixth film in a series that began in 1979 and has made film history. Emanuel Levy looks back at the franchise.
