Atomic Blonde

Golden Globe winner Charlize Theron is burning the world screens this month with an extraordinary performance in Atomic Blonde as a high-powered spy in Berlin at the end of the Cold War, in 1989. She produced the movie and was very hands-on on the brilliant soundtrack.

It was a tense race between the top two at the domestic box office but in the end Dunkirk put a sad face on The Emoji Movie’s opening run. This weekend’s biggest story comes however from the Far East, where Wolf Warrior II opened to a stunning $140 million in China.

Set against the backdrop of Berlin at the fall of the wall, Atomic Blonde stars James MacAvoy, John Goodman, Sofia Boutella and Toby Jones in a taut cold-war era spy thriller. But the cast is really supporting Charlize Theron as Lorraine Broughton, a sensual and deadly MI6 operative tasked with an impossible mission.

Continuing what is taking shape as this year’s trend, Atomic Blonde is the adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name and features another fierce female protagonist. This time it’s Charlize Theron as super agent Lorraine Broughton.
