Call Me By Your Name

In Northern Italy in 1983, seventeen year-old Elio begins a relationship with visiting Oliver, his father's research assistant, with whom he bonds over his emerging sexuality, their Jewish heritage, and the beguiling Italian landscape.

In spite of the ongoing pandemic, producer Rodrigo Teixeira is having a very busy year. And the next one is promising to be the same:  he has eleven projects on his slate, including two pictures shown in this year’s Cannes - Murina and Bergman Island -  and two new projects from directors James Gray and Luca Guadagnino.

Timothée Chalamet, this year s acting sensation with a fresh Golden Globe nomination for best actor for his starring role in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name is extremely enthusiastic about how music helps him with his craft:“Music plays a really, really, really big role in all of the acting I do.   For the fireplace scene in this film (Call Me By Your Name) I had a little earpiece, that's playing the song (Sufjan Stevens’ “Visions of Gideon”) the entire time so it kind of it gave sort of the mechanism or barometer by which to know okay, how is this song going, where are the arcs of the song here.

Golden Globe nominated director Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name debuted to much buzz at the Sundance Film Festival and showed at the Toronto Film Festival in advance of its awards-season theatrical release this fall. Adapted by James Ivory from André Aciman’s 2007 novel of the same name, the coming-of-age story stars Armie Hammer as Oliver, an American college student who spends a summer in Italy doing post-graduate study and finds himself slowly falling into a romantic relationship with the younger teenage son of his hosts, Elio (Timothée Chalamet).

Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name transcends the easy stereotyping of genre, achieving a truly universal story of love, desire and the complicated ways they intertwine in a poignant coming-of-age story. Guadagnino was nominated for a Golden Globe for I Am Love, a sweeping portrait of emotional angst in an Italian dynasty starring Tilda Swinton.

Armie Hammer was in Park City last year as part of the Birth of a Nation crew that took Sundance by storm. This year he is back with a film, which drew similar emotion from the Eccles audience.

Just ahead of the blizzard, which blanketed Park City with three feet of snow (testing even the most veteran festivalgoers) a welcome touch of cinematic class blew in from Europe in the form of Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name. The Italian director is no stranger to Park City having shown his I Am Love here five years ago.
