Cannes 2019 International Film Festival

The HFPA announced a grant of $500,000 to Help Refugees at the annual charity event hosted in Cannes this year with Participant Media, producers of Ai Wei Wei's refugee documentary Human Flow. The award is part of the HFPA’s program of humanitarian aid, which in the past has benefitted groups like Film Aid and the Kailash Foundation.

There were big trends in Cannes. Hair close to the skull with controlled cascades down the back; braids and adornments were noticeable, too.

The 72nd Cannes Film festival had lots of big names: Tarantino, Almodovar, Malick. In the end, Alejandro González Iñarritu’s jury opted for the smaller names, women, and the issues of poverty, displacement, and inequality.

If anyone doubted that accessories finish a look, look what the stars chose to do.

“To me (this (film) is as much of a memory piece as, say, Roma was for Alfonso (Cuarón)” Quentin Tarantino recently told HFPA journalists about Once Upon a Time.
