Cecil B. deMille

Today the Hollywood Foreign Press Association® (HFPA) announced that Golden Globe Award® winner and six-time nominee Eddie Murphy will be honored with the coveted Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

The Golden Globe Awards, in their early years, were a less formal affair than they have been since 1971 when they started being hosted in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. In 1952, the event was held for the second straight year at Ciro’s, a popular nightclub on the Sunset Strip.

              On Sunday, January 13, 2013, Jodie Foster, the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award of the 70th Golden Globe Awards, offered thanks with a speech that became one of the highlights of the evening.

When the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to establish a special, prestigious award for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment, the members wanted it to bear an internationally recognized and respected name. So they turned to a born showman, Cecil B.
