Cecil B. deMille Award laureate Morgan Freeman has some words of congratulations – and advice – for our current recipient, Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah Winfrey is the recipient of the Cecil B. deMille Award of the 75th Golden Globes.

We celebrate Oprah Winfrey not only for all she has accomplished, as a woman, an artist and a leader, but also for owning her style. She knows who she is and what works.

"I am the same person that I would have been if I was going to be the 4th-grade teacher that I was going to be. I would have been a dynamic 4th-grade teacher, I would have won the teacher of the year award for sure, (laughter) but I am the same person.

We want to be among the first to wish a very happy 95th birthday to Doris Day, actress, singer, Hollywood legend - and, with 11 nominations, five wins and a Cecil B. deMille award, an integral part of the very history of the Golden Globes.

Meryl Streep is the recipient of the Cecil B. deMille Award of the 74th Golden Globes.

In the early years the Golden Globe awards were a less formal affair than they are today, when they are celebrated in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel since 1974. In 1947, 1948 and 1949 the Globes were held at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, and in 1951 and 1952 at Ciro’s, a popular nightclub at 8433 Sunset Blvd.

Fifty six years before Denzel Washington, the recipient of our Cecil B. deMille Award 2016, Maurice Chevalier held the very same trophy.
