Feathers, flowers, flounces and svelte shapes were everywhere at the Asteroid City red carpet during the 76th annual Cannes film festival at Palais des Festivals.   Scarlett Johansson, one of the stars of Asteroid City, was pretty in a pink satin sheath that gave the illusion of her bra peeking out, but was actually a fun trompe-l'œil - and the straps of her gown.

Set on the backdrop of the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the beginning of the First World War, The Promise plays like a grand melodrama in the vein of David Lean (Christian Bale also evokes Warren Beatty’s Reds, as an inspiration for  Terry George’s epic love story).
