 Welcome to the Golden Globes Around the World podcast. This week’s episode is a colorful CinemaCon wrap-up from HFPA members Brent Simon, David Caspi, and Earl Gibson III.

Interestingly, CinemaCon 2022, which gathered several thousands of exhibitors from all over the world in the Colosseum at Caesars Palace for four intense days of presentations by Hollywood studios, kicked off with National Association of Theatre Owners CEO John Fithian declaring that “simultaneous release is dead as a serious business model, and piracy is what killed it”. Yesterday was the final day of CinemaCon 2022 packed schedule wrapped up with Lionsgate presentation of the studio’s slate that followed two full days of exciting events by The Walt Disney Studios, Universal Pictures, and Paramount Pictures Studio expressing their confidence in the fact that moviegoers are back to theaters, and so is the industry, and sharing their release plans for the coming months ahead.

CinemaCon 2022 wrapped up on Thursday, April 28, with the annual convention’s “Big Screen Achievement Awards,” held at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. Capping off a jam-packed week in which Hollywood movie studios showcased their upcoming slates to theater owners and exhibition executives from all over the United States and the world, the evening’s celebratory gala further fed a general sense of optimism present all week about the burgeoning return of in-person events, and allowed honorees like Robert De Niro, Zoe Saldaña and Rachel McAdams to recount some of their formative moviegoing experiences.

CinemaCon, the annual NATO convention of theater owners, took place in Las Vegas at Caesar’s Palace on April 25-28, 2022. Movie studios presented trailers for their upcoming releases with the help of their stars and directors.

CinemaCon is back and movie studios are showcasing their upcoming projects, from the Top Gun reboot to the Shazam movie to Jordan Peele's newest film and many others. HFPA-reporter Earl Gibson III got up really early to capture the hallowed halls of CinemaCon HQ Cesar's Palace without the crowds.

Tom Cruise, long known for his strong relationship with exhibitors, is still busy shooting the latest installment of his Mission: Impossible franchise. So he wasn’t able to attend CinemaCon 2022 this week in Las Vegas, Nevada, in support of Top Gun: Maverick.

In a little more than a decade, Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions, a company specializing in low-budget psychological and supernatural horror films, has put out 30 movies that have grossed roughly $5 billion in the combined worldwide box office — all with a combined production cost of just over $130 million. It’s a jaw-dropping rate of return on investment that would leave even casino owners steaming with jealousy.
