Back in 1975, the film Jaws created such terror of sharks in the audience, that the film’s tag line “Don’t go into the water” became a mantra for those afraid of venturing into the ocean in case they encountered the dreaded predator. In The Rental, director Dave Franco might be resurrecting a bit of that same anxiety; but instead of aquatic peril, he has turned his focus to the possible threats of rental properties.

 A dark suspense thriller for the age of Pokemon-Go, Nerve opens with nothing if not perfect timing. The augmented reality style game of the title features young people engaging in a social media based game of dare (“minus the truth” as the games site announces).

Now You See Me 2 follows up on the hugely successful Now You See Me (2013) and reunites most of the original cast with the addition of Daniel Radcliffe as high tech prodigy Walter Mabry who has cryptic designs on The Horsemen. The HFPA’s Ramzi Malouki was at the premiere and talked to Jesse Eisenberg and Dave Franco about rebooting the magic-crime-caper story.
