This weekend’s big winner at home and abroad was Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Tim Burton’s dark fantasy romp is adapted from the popular 2011 novel of the same name by Ransom Riggs.

The Deepwater Horizon accident and subsequent oil spill, which spewed millions of gallons of crude oil into the Gulf o Mexico, ranks as the nation’s worst environmental disaster. The devastating spill cast a pall of doom on the Gulf coast and embodied the real potential for ecological catastrophes posed by our carbon-based energy infrastructure.
