Don't Worry Darling

Smile, a horror film that was originally headed for a streaming-only release, grinned its way to the bank as it topped the domestic box office and earned way more than predicted. In his feature directing debut, Parker Finn found a gold mine in his 2020 short, Laura Hasn’t Slept, and adapted it into a sleeper hit for Paramount, Smile.

Waiting for its long-awaited sequel – opening in December all over the world, Italy included -  James Cameron's 2009 Avatar is making once again splashes at the box office in its re-release in theaters: grossing $1,658. 061 (same in Euros) on its second week of play, the 3D fantasy/sci-fi juggernaut is again at the top of Italian box-office chart, according to Cinetel's data: Avatar has so far grossed over $2 million since its release, bringing over a monthlong record of 250,000 moviegoers to the Bel Paese theaters.

In the end, all that drama may have helped Don’t Worry Darling. No one needed to have worried, darlings: Olivia Wilde’s second directing feature after her well-received Booksmart topped the box office with $19.

Don’t Worry Darling was on everyone’s tongue at TIFF. The film which premiered at the Venice Film Festival was the target of much discussion and little of it had to do with the film itself.
