It’s that time of the year again: Hollywood and the international film industry are descending on Park City to kick off the year in movies. The weather forecast is freezing: when the high is 30F, you just know you better pack those earmuffs for a night out on Main Street.

A lively crowd of mostly Balkan Europeans filled the Writers Guild Theater on Doheny in Beverly Hills on May 1st, 2019 for the opening of SEEfest. The Los Angeles festival, whose mission is to promote works from the South Eastern European regions, has grown slowly but steadily over the last 14 years.

The Indian Film festival in Los Angeles (IFFLA) is a showcase for emergent Indian filmmakers to find their own personal voice amidst the giant two poles of Bollywood and Hollywood. By showcasing their best works in Los Angeles they strive to create awareness, not only in local audiences and the sprawling local Indian community but also among the filmmakers themselves.

The Berlinale Palast is getting ready to welcome scores of high-profile participants and screenings for the ten-day run of the 68th Berlin International Film Festival, from February 15 to 25. The festival will open with the world premiere of Wes Anderson’s animated film Isle of Dogs.

After three stand up specials, millennial comedian Bo Burnham has gracefully transitioned from the stage to the screen with his directorial debut, Eighth Grade, which premiered at Sundance 2018. A generous selection of 20 titles (against last year’s 19 and 2014’s 18) with a mix of festival perennials, first-timers and exciting segues by recent buzz-worthy filmmakers sets the tone for this year’s Cannes International Film Festival.  The announcement of the 2016 edition of the event – its 69th- was made this morning in Paris by festival delegate general Thierry Fremaux and festival president Pierre Lescure.

Anyone who ever had the urge to see Daniel Radcliffe as a dead body being carried by Paul Dano should get a ticket to the 2016 Sundance Film Festival right away –Swiss Army Man, the debut feature film of writing/directing duo Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan is one of the intriguing offers scheduled for Park City this coming January. The US Competition, World Competition and Next sidebar slates were announced this Wednesday and, as usual, present the healthy mix of current themes, provocative narratives, independent filmmakers, and well-known stars that attracts film fans, media hounds and industry honchos alike to the Park City streets.
