The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA)  announces the second wave of actors, artists, and activists participating in the “HFPA Philanthropy: Empowering the Next Generation,” virtual event hosted by James Corden on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at 5:00 p. m.

Following its by-laws, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has named Ali Sar President of the HFPA, replacing recently deceased Lorenzo Soria. Sar has held a number of positions with the HFPA during his over 35-year membership, most recently serving as vice president under Soria.

Doing the Work is a series profiling key recipients of HFPA Philanthropy Francisco Velasquez, the leader of Film Independent’s short film production program, has been a lover of film since childhood. A Mexican-born bicultural man, he grew up in Los Angeles with his family, watching “bad Mexican movies from the ‘70s and ‘80s” at the local drive-in while enjoying pan dulce and coffee, and big Hollywood productions every weekend at theaters downtown.

Two film events will highlight HFPA restoration efforts. Continuing its mission to restore and preserve film heritage, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association gives major contributions and grants to print and digital restoration projects and holds an annual Film Restoration Summit.

The HFPA is currently accepting applications for membership. Applicants should be working Southern California -based journalists covering the entertainment industry for a legitimate foreign publication and must be sponsored by two current HFPA members.

UPDATE: 01/29/21 On January 28, 2021, the HFPA adopted the following clarification to these special COVID rules: All motion picture drama, musical/comedy, foreign language and animated film submissions entered for consideration for the 2021 Golden Globe awards whose release schedule changes between February 3, 2021 (day of the nominations) and February 28, 2021 (end of current eligibility period) and therefore become ineligible for the 2021 awards because their release is delayed to a date after February 28, 2021, also will not be eligible for the 2022 awards.  If you anticipate that your film’s release date will be delayed to a date after February 28, 2021, please advise us prior to the announcement of our 2021 nominations on February 3, 2021.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has announced these updated temporary measures to adjust the requirements for Golden Globe Awards eligibility due to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on motion picture distribution and exhibition. Official Motion Picture Screenings:  To be eligible for Golden Globe motion picture awards, an official screening of the motion picture must be arranged for all HFPA members: All members qualified to vote for Golden Globe Awards must be invited to an official screening of the eligible motion picture at a third-party facility in the greater Los Angeles area.
