Rachel Bloom, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. When a boyfriend dumps you, all you do is refuse a partnership at a top law firm, throw away the Xanax, and stalk him to LA.

For his groundbreaking role as transgender Maura Pfefferman, Tambor receives his third consecutive Golden Globe nomination (he won two years ago).    He talked to the HFPA about the reach and influence of the show after three seasons on Amazon.

Nolte plays Graves, a former US President who decides to spend his life fixing the mistakes he made while in office after googling himself and discovering his legacy was appalling.   Streaming on EPIX, the show features several real-life politicians who make cameo appearances, like Rudolph Giuliani, Barney Frank and Michael Steele.

Executive-producer Glover leads the cast as Earn, a Princeton dropout who tries to manage the rap career of his cousin in a desperate bid to reclaim his life.   The show was renewed by FX for Season 2 two weeks after it premiered, a reaction to the critical plaudits that took Glover completely by surprise.

This is Bernal’s second nomination for the show; he won last year in the role of Maestro Rodrigo de Souza, conductor of the New York Symphony.   The character is loosely based on Gustavo Dudamel who coached Bernal to actually conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl.

Anderson stars in the comedy about an upper middle-class African-American family living in a primarily white neighborhood who worries that his kids are not aware enough of their heritage.   The show deals with topics like racism, interracial dating, police brutality and homosexuality, but he insists the writers don’t rip stories from the headlines.

Ross is Dr. Rainbow Johnson, the materfamilias of the nominated TV series Black-ish, a working mom dealing with all the usual stresses, and then some.

Atlanta. A Princeton dropout returns home to Atlanta to try to salvage his life by managing his rapper cousin’s career.

“The show is not about her being a virgin,” declares Rodriguez at an HFPA press conference.   “It’s about a family, these three generations.

Based on a web series created by Rae, Awkward Black Girl, the show explores the friendship of two black women and their insecurities.   Race and social injustice are themes dealt with a light touch as the show is first and foremost a comedy set in south Los Angeles.
