Out of the Archives, 2004: Javier Bardem on the Right to Die

Javier Bardem, nominated as Best Actor for the Golden Globes and the Academy for his performance as Ricky Ricardo in Being the Ricardos, spoke to the journalists of the Hollywood Foreign Press in 2004 about the Spanish movie Mar adentro (The Sea Inside) directed by Alejandro Aménabar, Golden Globe winner as Foreign Picture in 2005.   He supported the fight of Ramón Sampredo for the right to end his life, after becoming a quadriplegic at age 25 in a diving accident.

Out of the Archives, 2005: Michelle Yeoh on “Memoirs of a Geisha”

Michelle Yeoh stars in the science fiction film Everything Everywhere All at Once, that premiered at the 2022 SXSW South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. The Malaysian actress – acclaimed for her performances in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) by Ang Lee, The Lady (2011) by Luc Besson, Crazy Rich Asians (2018) by Jon Chu – spoke to the journalists of the Hollywood Foreign Press in 2005 about her role in Memoirs of a Geisha, directed by Rob Marshall from the 1997 novel by Arthur Golden.

Jennifer Lopez, 1997: Becoming “Selena”

Jennifer Lopez started her career as a dancer, then transitioned into movies when Gregory Nava cast her for a supporting role in Mi Familia (1995), then for the leading role in Selena (1997), the biographical movie about the Tejano singer, which earned her the first of two Golden Globes nominations. She was directed by Francis Ford Coppola in Jack (1996) with Robin Williams, by Bob Rafelson in Blood & Wine (1997) with Jack Nicholson, by Oliver Stone in U-Turn (1997) with Sean Penn, by Steven Soderbergh in Out of Sight (1998) with George Clooney.
