Spider Man: No Way Home

For the second year in a row, the Covid pandemic has strongly affected box office returns in Italy, where the emergency forced movie theaters to shut down for four months in 2021, from the beginning of January to the end of April. And in the last part of the year, due to the sudden increase in the number of infections, an extremely large number of people were quarantined in their homes, thus impacting the numbers for the holiday season.

The question now is, how far higher will Spider-Man: No Way Home go in the all-time highest-grossing charts? As this story is being written, Peter Parker’s latest saga has already become the 10th biggest domestic release in history. Globally, Tom Holland’s latest outing as the web-slinging hero has become the 12th highest earning movie of all time.

After two years of battles with the coronavirus and its variants, one superhero was able to score against it. The latest installment of Spider-Man: No Way Home pushed the virus’s most transmissible variant, Omicron, out of its way as it bulldozed toward $1 billion in worldwide box-office gross.

At Christmas, Italians like to play it safe, even at the movie theaters.  Spider-Man continues to lead the box office rankings.

Earning $1 billion globally in record time, Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to sling its strong web grip on both the domestic and international box office. What’s phenomenal about Tom Holland’s latest Spider-Man outing is that it became the first pandemic-era movie to cross the $1 billion global milestone without the benefit of a release in China.

The December holidays have always been the highlight of the year when it comes to the box office. In the US, the intensity of those days can only be compared to Memorial Day or the Fourth of July weekend.

Spider-Man: No Way Home swung its way home to a boffo box opening weekend - a record-shattering on several levels. Tom Holland’s third movie outing as the web-slinging hero grabbed $253 million and set the record as the biggest December debut weekend ever, not just of the pandemic era.

Spidey to the rescue. While the million mark for theatergoers had remained elusive in the last few weeks, the likable action hero literally saved the day over the weekend.

He won't be able to stop the fourth wave of the pandemic, but he's definitely the hero that Italy needed now, box office-wise at least. In less than a week of programming in theaters - five days to be exact - Spider-Man: No Way Home has taken in €11,226,278 domestically, totaling almost a million and a half viewers.
