Taipei Film Festival

Founded 25 years ago, in 1998, the Taipei Film Festival has strong ties with its society, as it was born in a historic moment known as “the liberalization and democratization of Taiwan”, and then became the first film festival in the country to be funded by a city government. It will celebrate its new edition from June 22nd to July 8th, but it also organizes year-round educational programs, especially for young filmmakers.

The last edition of Taipei Film Festival included a screening of the classic Japanese movie Ugetsu (1953), which was restored with funds provided by the HFPA, as part of the Association’s commitment to film restoration. Close to $3 million have been donated since the program started some 20 years ago.

Now in it’s 19th year, the Taipei International Film Festival kicked off its opening night with The Great Buddha +, directed by Huang Hsin-yao.  The sold-out film is Huang’s first feature, based on his Golden Horse award nominated short film of the same name.

It’s another big victory for Uisenma Borchu as her drama Don’t Look At Me That Way  (Schau mich nicht an ) wins the Grand Prize of the International New Talent Competition at the 18th Taipei Film Festival. The Award Ceremony was held at the historic Zhongshan Hall.
