In a slow weekend at the US box office, last frame's top three held their spots and shrugged off a small crop of unsuccessful newcomers. Universal and Bulmhouse's Glass stayed at number one with $19 million, taking its total domestic sales to $73.

MLK Weekend is over and expected front runner Glass came in first, but with lower results than predicted. At $47 million over four days, Universal and Blumhouse's psychological thriller fell short of the $60 million debut analysts had projected for it but was still comfortably in first place on the domestic chart.

Wheelchair-bound comedy The Upside pulled off a major upset this weekend and beat superhuman Aquaman to first place at the US box office. Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart's remake of 2011 French hit The Intouchables took first place with $19.

With the long holiday season coming to end, Aquaman succeeded in hanging onto the global top spot for $136 million this frame, to reach a worldwide cume of $748. 8 million.

Aquaman washed away the competition at this weekend's global box office race, taking in $126. 4 million from 43 markets and clinching a second top finish on the combined domestic and international chart.

This weekend saw a few familiar films make decent return runs while several Golden Globe nominees added theaters on the back of last Wednesday's honors. Five times nominated The Favourite expanded to 91 theaters and took $1.

As we move into full Awards and Holiday season, no major new movies opened in US theaters and domestic top rankings fell to a handful of familiar entrants. Among global newcomers, the biggest film to crack the top 10 was the Chinese action comedy A Cool Fish, which earned $25.

Warner Bros. ' had a magic weekend with their $263 million global launch of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Christmas came in mid-November for Universal with their animated reboot of Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch taking $66 million and first place in its domestic debut.
