A slow Labor Day weekend saw Americans enjoying the last bit of August sun as they normally do rather than going to the movies. Lionsgate's Angel Has Fallen finished its sophomore frame in first place with $14.

Tensions may be rising between the US and China, but the universal language of fast cars and huge explosions proved itself stronger than the trade war and backlash against tensions in Hong Kong. Universal's Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw made an outstanding $102 million in its PRC opening despite a series low score of 6.

Universal's pre-teen comedy Good Boys performed well above expectations and ended its opening frame with $21 million and in first place in the US and Canada.  Good Boys is about a group of three middle school kids coping with bullying and family troubles and, of course, trying to get laid.

Jason Statham and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson left the competition in their dust as Universal’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw finished its second frame in first place with $86. 2 million worldwide.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw led the pack in a strong worldwide frame that ended season-long tensions about an overall slow summer. Universal's Fast & Furious spin-off took $180.

Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time in … Hollywood took off to a fantastic $40 million in the US and marked a record opening for the director. That was enough to beat stablemate Spider-Man: Far from Home, but short of The Lion King's domestic top finish of $75 million.

There was only going to be one king of the jungle this weekend and Disney's The Lion King announced itself to the world with a resounding roar. John Favreau's live-action adaptation of the beloved early nineties children's cartoon made $185 million in its US debut and $269.

There was not much surprise on the domestic front this weekend as Spider-Man: Far from Home swung to another first-place finish. Sony and Marvel's second web-slinging co-production dropped 51% over last frame's three-day numbers and ended its second outing with $45 million.

Major fireworks went off for Spider-Man: Far from Home as Sony's second co-production with Marvel Studios netted a massive $185 million over the Fourth of July holiday. Sony opted to open their latest Spider movie two days ahead of the midweek national holiday in the US.

Toy Story 4 stayed on top of the domestic box office chart in its second weekend in theaters, taking $57. 9 million to reach a home market cume of $236.
