An Afghan movie filmed in Kabul, the Shinwari Valley and Zarani, Afghanistan, and also in Munich, Germany, and Kos Island, Greece, among other locations, I Am You is an independent film based on the true story of Afghan refugees and their will to survive. The film was directed by Sonia Nassery Cole, written by Sean O'Byrne, and produced by Breadwinner Productions.

That victory made Juan José Campanella, its director, a local hero, but instead of following it with another feature he opted for trying his hand at animation, directing Metegol in 2013, and devoted his time to work on television, including episodes of American series such as Colony and Halt and Catch Fire.

Born in Nalchik, Russia, director Kantemir Balagov graduated from Kabardino-Balkarian University. Several of his short student films were shown at the Locarno Film Festival.
