Directed by Wang Xiaoshuai, one of the pioneer figures in China’s independent filmmaking, So Long, My Son traces the lives of two families over three decades of social, political and family turmoil in China. The story takes place after China institutes its one-child policy.

Based on a true story, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind marks the directorial debut of British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays the boy’s father and wrote the screenplay from the 2010 memoir by William Kamkwamba. It’s the contemporary story of a teenage boy living in a rural village in the African country of Malawi.

Kim Ki-taek is the patriarch of the Kim family, a clan whose members are unemployed and live poorly in their humble Seoul home, dodging precarious jobs and stealing Wi-Fi from their neighbor. His luck changes when his son gets, with questionable methods, a position as an English tutor at the house of a wealthy family: the Parks.
