Director-writer Pedro Almodóvar tackles the nightmare of every mother – to have their newborn babies switched at the maternity ward in his latest Spanish drama. Parallel Mothers (Madres Paralelas) deals with the trauma and complications when the switch happens not only with the women involved but also with the people close to them.

Recently, Bangladesh has surfaced as a new player in global cinema with a prevalent theme: The emergence of women in the country’s patriarchal society and the demand for equity. Rubaiyat Hossein’s Made in Bangladesh last year and Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s Rehana Maryam Noor (or just Rehana for international audiences) this year, share the plight of female characters positioned at the core of the story.

He was the only talent with two titles in Cannes’ main selection this year.

In Clara Sola, Clara (Wendy Chinchilla Araya) lives in a rural area of Costa Rica with her elderly mother Fresie (Flor Maria Vargas Chaves). Clara’s niece Maria (Ana Julia Porras Espinoza) has moved in with them after her mother passed away, resulting in three generations of women sharing the same roof.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has announced the nominees for the 79th Annual Golden Globe Awards from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. For the first time, the announcement was live-streamed at goldenglobes.

107 Mothers is a prison drama about women inmates in a Ukrainian jail. A Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Ukraine co-production, the film was directed by Peter Kerekes and is based on real-life stories of women jailed at Odessa Correctional Facility Number 74, one of two Ukrainian prisons where pregnant women can serve their sentences with their children.
