HFPA Grantee Echo Park Film Center, the brainchild of cultural activists and filmmakers extraordinaire Lisa Marr and Paolo Davanzo, is a community-based outpost providing technical and critical film education to the youth of Los Angeles’ diverse Echo Park district. The HFPA supports filmmaking workshops at the Film Center, an annual program which provides free screenings and multi-week classes on creative and technical skills, teaching the lost art of actual 16 mm filmmaking to young people.

The Hollywood Foreign Press has announced a donation $250. 000 to the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) to help in the organization’s efforts towards the reunification of children separated from their parents by immigration authorities.

HFPA Grantee In 1992, in the wake of the LA riots, producer Dorothy Thompson created Streetlights, a nonprofit organization which today has a proven track record of bringing a skilled, ethnically diverse workforce to the behind-the-camera world of films, television, commercials and other media platforms. As a Job Training, Job Placement and Career Advancement organization, Streetlight’s mission is to create careers, not just jobs, for underrepresented young women and men from diverse backgrounds, while increasing diversity throughout the entertainment industry.

HFPA Grantee The California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) is a cutting-edge and immersive four-week program for talented and motivated high school students in the arts, held on the campus of the California Institute of the Arts each summer. The school provides education in seven artistic disciplines: Animation, Creative Writing, Dance, Film, Music, Theater and Visual Arts.

HFPA Grantee The mission of the Sundance Institute International Initiative – especially at the beginning – sounded simpler than its execution ever was. The goal: to enhance the global filmmaking landscape by supporting international independent film artists through a continuum of production.

HFPA Grantee Almost 27 years ago, Wenda Fong used to joke that there were more space aliens on TV or film than Asians. “We were invisible,” she said.

HFPA Grantee Founded in 1929, Santa Monica College is considered one of the premier community colleges within the Los Angeles area, leading the 113 community colleges in the region in transfers to schools within the UC (University of California) system. The school currently holds an enrollment of 30,000 and offers over 90 fields of study spread out over five separate campuses, including a fairly new film production program, which was added to the school’s curriculum in 2013 offering Associates Degrees and Certificates of Achievement in film production.

HFPA Grantee The Department of Cinema and Television Arts of California State University, Northridge – better known as CSUN – is one of the “oldest” grantees of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, 22 years to be exact. It is one of HFPA’s inaugural university programs, providing institutional grants and film production fellowships for students, a mostly working-class constituency in need of help.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association members have re-elected president Meher Tatna for a second mandate. Tatna, who oversaw the successful 75th edition of the Golden Globes, ran unopposed.
