The last edition of Taipei Film Festival included a screening of the classic Japanese movie Ugetsu (1953), which was restored with funds provided by the HFPA, as part of the Association’s commitment to film restoration. Close to $3 million have been donated since the program started some 20 years ago.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) will host its annual Grants Banquet on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. More than $2 million in funds to nonprofit entertainment-related organizations and scholarship programs will be presented, with the help of A-list stars, like in previous years.

Three members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association were recognized for their achievements at the 59th Southern California Journalism Awards at the Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles Sunday night. Adam Tanswell won second place in the Entertainment News or Feature category for his story The X-Files Reborn.

The Los Angeles Conservancy, a longtime Hollywood Foreign Press Association grantee, just launched its annual mini film festival, The Last Remaining Seats: A Celebration of Classic Movies shown in historic movie palaces that are still functioning in Los Angeles. The opening night featured the 1997 neo-noir drama L.

Meher Tatna has been elected president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) for the 2017-2018 year at the organization’s annual election meeting. Tatna succeeds outgoing president Lorenzo Soria.

“The P in HFPA stands for press, but it could also stand for philanthropy”, said HFPA president Lorenzo Soria in his opening remarks on Sunday, May 21, at the Association’s annual Cannes party. This year the event served as a benefit for the International Rescue Committee (IRC), a nonprofit organization that responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people who have been devastated by conflict and disaster, to which the HFPA donated $500,000.

The HFPA delegation at the Cannes Film Festival is comprised this year of nineteen journalists who will screen the films of this 70th anniversary edition. The Hollywood Foreign Press has also been collecting celebrity tributes to the world’s preeminent festival as it marks the seven-decade milestone.

It was a room full of enthusiastic young students at the Writers Guild Theater on Sunday night as the CSUN Cinema and Television Department unveiled the winners of the documentary and narrative shorts thesis projects from the graduating class of 2017. Earlier this year that department of the California State University of Northridge received a grant of 2 million dollars from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to be assigned to their television production studios and for student scholarships.

International students interested in honing their film skills at one of the top learning institutions in the field just got a big boost, thanks to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Furthering its relationship with the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, the HFPA will endow USC/SCA with $2 million to provide financial support exclusively to international students.

As part of the HFPA mission to contribute to organizations connected with the entertainment industry and involved in educational, cultural, and humanitarian activities, five HFPA members recently visited USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism to participate in a panel moderated by Senior Lecturer and former TV Guide senior editor, Mary Murphy. The class was titled ‘Specialized Journalism: The Arts’ and our panel consisted of Jenny Cooney (Australia), Silvia Bizio (Italy), Scott Orlin (Germany), Marlene Von Arx (Switzerland) and Elisabeth Sereda (Austria).
