As legacy media and publishing platforms have grappled with fallout from the steady encroach of the internet over the past two decades, a lot of old barriers to entry (both overt and less obvious on the surface) have at least partially eroded. Remnants and engrained instincts of gatekeeping hurdles, though, remain.

Involved in the entertainment business since finishing her film degree at USC, Ellen Huang has proved to be one of the most visionary advocates for diversity and inclusion in media. Following work as a development executive and as a founder of the first-ever diversity lounge at the annual Sundance Film Festival, Ellen currently occupies the seat of VP of Diversity at Entertainment One.

Amidst their long-running battle for pay equity, the Costume Designers Guild, together with the UCLA Anderson School of Management organized an event that aimed to explore the value and economic impact of costume design in the film industries. Several professionals gathered and shared insights regarding the costume design and identified opportunities to make it more equitable.

Six and a half years after her untimely death, beloved Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher got her long overdue Hollywood Walk of Fame star – and on Star Wars Day. The posthumous honor on the famed Los Angeles tourist attraction made Fisher forever commemorated with a star near the historic El Capitan Theatre, steps away from those of fellow Star Wars co-stars Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo, and Mark Hamill, who played Princess Leia’s twin brother Luke Skywalker.
