45 Years with Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay

45 Years, by British director and producer Andrew Haigh ,is a minimalist yet devastating portrait of a couple spinning out of emotional orbit. Kate (Charlotte Rampling) and Geoff (Tom Courtenay) are retired to the English countryside and making plans for their forty-fifth anniversary celebration. An unexpected revelation about the past intervenes, however, and puts in doubt the party, the trust and indeed the very survival of the lifelong couple. We recently spoke to Rampling and Courtenay, whose first big role was in Doctor Zhivago (he was also a 1984 Golden Globe supporting actor nominee for The Dresser) about the film which was showcased at the Berlin, Telluride and Toronto festivals.
