In 1943, the HFPA held its very first awards dinner at the already legendary Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and then again in 1947 and 1948. In those years, Gregory Peck, Rosalind Russell, Elia Kazan, Richard Widmark and Frank Capra won prizes. The ceremonies established the hotel as a favorite location for stars.
