Amy Adams on “Sharp Objects”
Amy Adams stars as the lead character of Camille in Sharp Objects, adapted for HBO from the book of the same title – the debut novel by Gillian Flynn. Flynn was of course nominated for a Best Screenplay Golden Globe for David Fincher’s Gone Girl. Here she executive produces a series directed by (Globe winner) Big Little Lies alum Jean Marc Vallée, which strives to be faithful to the original material, a gritty and noir “Midwestern Gothic”. It falls to multi-nominated and two-time Golden Globe winner Adams to flesh out the protagonist: a St. Louis journalist sent back to her childhood hometown of Wind Gap to write about a string of murders – and face her (many) demons. The HFPA’s Mirai Konishi and Scott Orlin spoke to the actress about the series and the demands of playing such an emotionally vulnerable character.
